Let me start my own travel insurance to help people with pre-existing medical conditions, how I can do?! How I can make the introduction? In the United Kingdom? How much capital is needed? Is it impossible? What other main types of booting? aaaggghh
Mbrcatz the answer is irrelevant and inappropriate for the UK (or indeed most countries) ….. You hit the nail on the head, all around and needs capital tens of millions to do what you say and start-up costs are huge … Remember they need accountants, claims professionals, responsible for compliance and complaints etc etc you can sell a single policy. I think you're better than a million in staff costs collected before a penny in premiums. (60 .. AVG £ 50k a year, the owner is ridiculously low costs in the UK market for four months ins … = 1 million pounds) must also be able to cope with a disaster one day … the insurer must be able to survive to 1 in 200 cases a year. It …. What's the worst that can happen (even if it happens once every 200 years). For general travel an epidemic that many sick people trapped abroad. How big I can start? Good question ….. Most of them can trace its history back donkeys years and has raised capital by issuing shares (and the increase in social capital over the years) or in the case of Lloyds form a union of indivduals willing to risk their personal fortunes. Remember that you can not "borrow" the money to make a loan or loan repayments are not considered capital (I will not enter into technical Level 1 Level 2). So forget all that nonsense about hiring actuaries and lawyers … Your best bet would be closer to existing companies (Or a syndicate of Lloyd's) and say your idea ….. "The way to do take the risk of this market niche." They have their own actuaries, etc, and provided presesnt a serious proposal in a professional manner, I listen and will not cost you a bean. You can get a "union" type of policy (ie special written just for you) that allows underwite risks (within certain limits, of course) on their behalf. In this way, take a long (but not all the initial costs distance), if your business is a success in 10 years you will have enough of a roadmap to reach the market and raise capital to buy the same company. Admire his ambition …. but believe me for an insurance company from scratch is not a starter … even the banks do, they buy existing insurance (RBS – Directline etc.) If you are really serious and want to continue the discussion, send me a message that I would be happy to point you in the right direction.
